  • Between Walker and Bill, a UP coal train with a C&NW GE on the point climbs one of the many rolling hills in the area.
Union Pacific AC4400CW near MP102 - 5/98

  • Canon T90, 300mm f4, Kodachrome 64
  • Same location as the previous photo, this heavy coal train has two GE's on the point and a third DPU unit on the rear pushing.
Union Pacific AC4400CW on Logan Hill - 5/98

  • Canon T90, 300mm f4, 2x teleconverter, Kodachrome 64
  • A UP coal train races a highrailer up Logan Hill near milepost 75. The highrailer won.
Burlington Northern SD70MACs near Converse Jct - 5/98

  • Three MACs lug a coal load up Logan Hill at milepost 65. Converse Jct is where the spur to the Antelope Coal Mine connects to the mainline. The Antelope Mine is the first mine on southern edge of the basin.
UP and BN at Converse Jct - 5/98

  • This is Converse Jct. In this photo are 4 different trains. A BN coal load going up Logan Hill, A UP coal empty coming down, a UP coal load coming out of the mine, and a UP coal empty going into the mine!
BN and Santa Fe GEs on Logan Hill - 5/98

  • What a bunch of old clunkers! 3 BN C30s, a Santa Fe C30 and a Kodachrome Santa Fe C30 struggle a train up Logan Hill near milepost 65.

  • A C&NW GE and a UP SD90MAC start a coal load up Logan Hill near Antelope Creek and milepost 62. The funny 'volcano' peak in the background is the result of strip mining at the Antelope mine.

  • UP 9999 chugs a little smoke as it begins the climb up Logan Hill.
Burlington Northern SD60 on Antelope Creek Bridge - 5/98

  • The "Nacco helper" crosses the high triple bridge over Antelope Creek. The helper was on it's way up the hill to give a push to a stalled UP coal load.

  • The trains stack up at Converse Junction, waiting their turn to go into their respective mines. In this photo are 4 UP trains and 1 BNSF train.

  • Eastbound trains are lined up bumper-to-bumper waiting for trackwork to clear up in the Bill, Wyoming area.

  • A colorful line of older EMD and GE power (except for the SD70MAC) lead a coal load up Logan Hill.

  • A UP coal empty heads into the Antelope mine at Converse Junction..

  • Here it is folks, the NEW superduper, high horsepower unit from EMD - the DDA90XAC! "D" trucks, 12,000 hp, two SD90MAC's on a single frame! Aren't photo editors a kick :)
