Union Pacific 3985 South Of Salt Lake, Utah - 6/82

- In June of 1982 the UP Challenger 3985 made her first big trip
away from home, visiting western Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah. The
next few photographs were taken while she was on an excursion
trip south of Salt Lake City, Utah. These photographs were some
of my earliest attempts at photograpy, using a Pentax camera
that's been gone so long I no longer remember its' model number..

- UP 3985 pounds the diamond just south of the Geneva Steel Plant near
Provo, Utah. This is where the UP branch crosses the former D&RGW
mainline.

- On a chilly and damp morning in June of 2001 UP 3985 deadheads east
to pull an excursion train from Kansas City to St. Louis.

- Just 30 miles east of Cheyenne the clear skies have given way to
overcast and light rain. UP 3985 glides quickly and quietly under
the signal bridge at Egbert, Wy.

- It's the newest fad sport in railroading...steam engine surfing!
Seriously, 3985 had to stop for a red block at Pine Bluff, and that's
one of the crewmen making an inspection of the roof.
