Hale-Bopp Comet Photographs
(Click on the thumbnail for a larger image)
|
- Minolta SRT MC-II, 50mm f1.4, Royal Gold 1000, 10 second exposure
- Speer, WY - 10 miles SW of Cheyenne
- My favorite Hale-Bopp photo. Taken from the
backyard of the mayor's house. (He's the mayor because he's the only one that lives in Speer!)

- Minolta SRT MC-II, 50mm f1.4, Royal Gold 1000, 15 second exposure
- 40 miles north of Cheyenne, WY
- A beautiful dark-sky shot from a very remote
location north of Cheyenne. No lights, no
glows on the horizon from distance cities,
just VERY dark. Couldn't see my hand in front
of my face! A great spot for astrophotography.

- Minolta SRT MC-II, 50mm f1.4, Royal Gold 1000, 15 second exposure
- 40 miles north of Cheyenne, WY
- Same shot as above, only at a higher resolution.
Still no sign of the UFO...

- Minolta SRT MC-II, 135mm f2.8, Royal Gold 1000, 15 second exposure
- 40 miles north of Cheyenne, WY
- Ok, one more shot with the telephoto this time and..
wait..what's that in the upper right hand corner?
It's the UFO!!! No, wait...it's the Starship Enterprise! Actually, it's a chemical spot from
the processor. Maybe...hmmmm :)

- Minolta SRT102, 35mm f2.8, Kodak EPH-1600, 10 second exposure
- 5 miles SW of Longmont, CO
- My first attempt at a comet shot. A "little"
overexposed, but what the hey, the effect is
kind of neat!

- Minolta SRT102, 135mm f2.8, Kodak EPH-1600, 20 second exposure
- 6 miles east of Roggen, CO
- From a dark spot in eastern Colorado. Shot with a
longer, slower lens than I used for most of my other shots, causing the stars to be
streaked from the earth's rotation. I found that
a fast 50mm lens (f1.4) was best for non-tracking
astrophotogphy.

- Minolta SRT102, 50mm f1.4, Kodak EPH-1600, 15 second exposure
- 6 miles east of Roggen, CO
- A pretty dark spot, nevertheless I'm pointing back
toward the cities of Colorado's front range. The
glow at the bottom of the photo is from the city
of Ft. Collins.
