Power for the Valmont Turn sits next to the depot at Longmont. The Valmont Turn is a coal train that is handed off from the UP to the BNSF in Denver. The UP (SP) power usually takes the train on up to the Valmont Power Plant in Boulder, where the power is cut off and taken to Longmont. The power then idles for a couple of days at Longmont until the coal train is unloaded. The power then goes east, picks up the coal empties and heads back to the UP.
